Espen Berg Trio will release a new album, Entropies, on June 5th, and the first single is out now. Check out Rue Saint-Michel here!

In the autumn of 2024, I went on a residency at NOPA’s artist residence in Vence, France. There, I wrote several of the pieces for the new album. This also gave the name to ‘Rue Saint-Michel’, a street in the town that inspired me to write this particular piece. The melody draws inspiration from both France and South America, and presents the trio in a more understated elegance.

On this piece we are joined by Joakim Munkner on cello and Flavia Huarachi on flute. The flute arrangement was made by transcribing an improvised synth part and splitting it up into eleven separate voices, which adds harmonic complexity and a broader soundscape in the last part of the song.
